Our first post is dedicated to the Royal Family because „Meeting Britain means – meeting the Royals”. It was edited by our student - Patrycja Kleba from 3TL. Enjoy and send your comments in English on Instagram or school Facebook profile.

Besides, we are still looking for the proper name for our club and also volunteers are warmly welcomed to join us.

ROYAL FAMILY

INTRODUCTION

The British royal family is hugely popular all over the world. Despite being watched almost constantly by fans and paparazzi, they managed to keep surprisingly much mystery. The Windsorow family has ruled in Great Britain since 1901. The first to sit on the throne was Edward VII, currently the queen is Elizabeth II who ascended the throne in 1952 and was crowned in 1953.

IN APRIL

In this month a lot is happening in the royal family. Starting with the death of Prince Philip, the birthday of the Queen, and ending with the tenth wedding anniversary of William and Kate.

DEATH OF PRINCE PHILIP

On April 17, the British buried Prince Philip. Due to pandemic restrictions, the ceremony was of an intimate nature. Only 30 people from the closest circle of Elizabeth II's spouse and four members of the choir took part in it. The list of funeral participants was decided by the queen herself, inviting the children of Karol, Anna, Andrzej and Edward, as well as grandchildren, William, Harry, Zara Tindall, Beatrice and Eugenia. They all appeared with the spouses (Meghan, who is in an advanced state of pregnancy, was missing, so the doctors advised against her trip). The British said goodbye to the prince with a symbolic minute of silence, which was scheduled for 4 p.m. (Polish time). As Buckingham Palace declares, efforts were made to meet the wishes of the deceased regarding the course of the ceremony under special conditions. The body was placed in the crypt of St. George's Chapel to the sounds of the national anthem. Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away on April 9, 2021, at the age of 99 after 73 years of marriage to Elizabeth II. At the same time, Buckingham Palace announces that "Her Majesty and the Royal Family are grateful for the condolences that come from all over the world, they are moved to see and hear that so many people remember the Prince."

BIRTHDAY ELIZABETH II

The Queen has two birthdays her real one on 21 April, as she was born on 21 April 1926. Then a second one the official celebration on the second Saturday of June. It was initiated by Edward VII, who had his birthday in November. He didn’t want to celebrate them then because of the weather, so he did them in the summer when the weather is better. The Queen usually spends her actual birthday with her family. There is usually a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21-gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London on 21 April but they have been cancelled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Queen and the Royal Family are still in mourning following the death of Prince Philip, aged 99, so celebrations will be smaller this year. The Trooping the Colour parade marks her official birthday and usually takes place in June, but that has also been cancelled this year. It is only the third time in her reign that the parade has not gone ahead.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

29th of April marks the 10th anniversary of the wedding of Prince William to Catherine Middleton. Since then, the couple have had three children - George, Charlotte and Louis - and travelled a dozen abroad, representing Great Britain. This Tuesday, the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge travelled to the Northeast of England to visit Darlington Farm workers. Just before leaving London, the spouses stood in front of the lens of photographer Chris Floyd. Two romantic portraits of the couple were released yesterday evening on the occasion of the 10th wedding anniversary. Kate displayed a sapphire engagement ring that had previously belonged to Lady Di, and a Welsh gold wedding ring underneath it. Internet users emphasize that the first of the photos resembles the official portrait from November 16, 2010, with which Buckingham Palace announced the engagement of the Duke and Miss Middleton.
